Workshops with The University of Cumbria

Woodland expansion will play a key role in the UK’s environmental targets in the next few years but how will it impact our landscapes? How do we find the right balance between forestry, food production and nature recovery?

Forestry 101: Treehugging – Tree measurement with tools and tricks

Learn how to measure trees for timber, for carbon, for fun, using a variety of equipment ranging from your arms, to sticks to lasers.

Conservation 101: Biodiversity bingo

How many branches from the tree of life can you spot? Can you do it faster than the average festival goer?

Conservation 102: Spies in the woods – Camera traps and AudioMoths

Work with experienced conservation researchers to get hands-on experience using camera traps to spy on animals and acoustic recorders (AudioMoths) to eavesdrop on them. There’s an opportunity for your kids to unleash their inner bear and dress up as animals to take part in the camera trap photo board.

Orienteering 101: Don’t get lost in the woods!

Learn more about finding your way in woodlands, reading the landscape, developing your navigation skills, getting a better understanding of GPS, and putting it all to the test on our mini-navigational trail.
