Shoes Full of Feet: Jess Day

Jess Day, aka Shoes Full Of Feet, shares her journey of becoming a solo, long-distance hiker and the lessons learnt along the way

You learn a lot when walking 100-miles alone on long-distance trails!

Jess Day, aka Shoes Full Of Feet, shares her journey of becoming a solo, long-distance hiker and the lessons learnt along the way.  Primarily that we should learn to embrace being a beginner, asking what might seem like silly questions, welcoming mistakes as learning opportunities and seeing fears as something to run towards, not away from!

More importantly, we should never let fear stand in the way of us doing something extraordinary.

“Daft questions and laughing at my own mistakes are all very much welcome here” Jess Day

Walk To Timber….

What better way to arrive to give a talk about long distance hiking, than by foot.  In support of our own green initiative, Timber By Foot, which encourages you to walk to the festival, Jess will be setting out to walk the National Forest Way, a 75 mile trail through the heart of the National Forest, pausing halfway to join in the Festival before carrying on to finish the route.

Bio

Two years ago, Jess decided to become a solo, long-distance hiker. She had no gear and, in her words, ‘no idea what I was really doing’. All she knew was she wanted to step outside of her comfort zone and push herself to try something new.

Jess has since walked over a thousand miles of long-distance trails, including what is regarded as the hardest trail in the UK -The Cape Wrath Trail.

Throughout her journey she has overcome fears, learnt countless lessons, and changed in ways she would never have imagined.

While writing a book about her experiences, Jess lives and travels full-time in her self-built home on wheels, filling her life with trying new things and encouraging others to do the same.
